Business PNP Alberta

The Business Investor Stream (BIS) allows Manitoba to recruit and nominate qualified business investors and
entrepreneurs from around the world who have the intent and ability to start or purchase businesses in Manitoba.

There are two pathways:

The Entrepreneur Pathway (EP) for applicants seeking to open a business in Manitoba;

Eligibility Criteria for the Entrepreneur Pathway

  1. Business Experience
    • Minimum Requirement:
      • At least 3 years of full-time work experience within the past 5 years.
      • Experience must be as an active business owner or in a senior management role of a successful business.
    • Points Allocation:
      • Business owners receive higher points compared to senior managers.
      • Business owners must have at least 33 1/3% ownership to qualify for points.
  2. Language Proficiency
    • Minimum Requirement:
      • Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) level 5.
  3. Education
    • Minimum Requirement:
      • Canadian high school equivalency or a similar level of education.
  4. Net Worth
    • Minimum Requirement:
      • Personal net worth of at least $500,000 CAD.
    • Verification:
      • Your net worth will be verified by a third-party supplier approved by the MPNP.
      • A verification report must be submitted with your application within 120 days of receiving your Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA).
  5. Business Investment
    • Minimum Investment:
      • $250,000 CAD for businesses situated in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region.
      • $150,000 CAD for businesses outside the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region.
    • Requirements:
      • Investment must be made in an eligible business as defined by the MPNP.
      • permanent resident (excluding owners and close relatives).

      • Investment details must be included in a business plan, which is a crucial part of the application.
  6. Preferred Criteria
    • Business Research Visit:
      • Recommended to conduct an in-person exploratory visit to Manitoba.
      • The visit should occur no more than one year before submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI).
      • During the visit, you can attend information sessions for the Business Investor Stream (BIS).
    • Adaptability:
      • Points are awarded if:
        • Your spouse has CLB/NCLC 5 or higher.
        • You or your spouse have CLB/NCLC 5 or higher in the second official language.
        • You or your spouse/common-law partner have a close relative currently residing in Manitoba for more than one year.
        • Your child is enrolled in an accredited Manitoba educational institution and pursuing full-time training for at least six months before EOI submission.
        • You or your accompanying spouse/common-law partner have completed a full-time study program of at least one year at a post-secondary institution in Manitoba with a valid study permit.
        • You or your accompanying spouse/common-law partner have at least six months of continuous full-time employment in Manitoba, supported by a reference letter from the employer and a copy of the work permit.
  7. Age:
    • There is no minimum or maximum age requirement.
    • However, ranking points are allocated to candidates between 25 to 49 years of age.
The Farm Investor Pathway (FIP)For those intending to establish and operate a farm operation in rural Manitoba.

Eligibility Criteria for the Farm Investor Pathway

  1. Farm Business Experience
    • Minimum Requirement:
      • At least 3 years of full-time work experience within the past 5 years.
      • Experience must be as an active business owner or in a senior management role of a successful business.
  2. Official Languages Proficiency
    • Requirement:
      • Proficiency in either English or French is necessary.
      • If invited to an interview, you must be able to conduct the interview in either Frenchor English.
  3. Farm Business Investment
    • Minimum Investment:
      • $300,000 CAD.
      • The investment must be used to establish a farming business in rural Manitoba.
    • Requirements:
      • Investments must be in eligible tangible assets as defined by the MPNP.
      • A detailed farm business plan is required.
      • Investments for passive income or speculative purposes are not eligible.
  4. Farm Business Research Visit
    • Requirement:
      • You must conduct a farm business research visit to Manitoba.
  5. Farm Business Activities
    • Requirements:
      • The farm must engage in ongoing and recurring business activities in rural Manitoba.
      • You are required to live on the farm and actively manage it.
      • The farm must be in active primary agriculture production and economically viable.
      • Value-added farm business activities are required; purely speculative activities or third-party farm managers are not eligible.
  6. Economic Establishment Adaptability
    • Requirement:
      • Demonstrate practical farming skills, technical knowledge, and experience in technology-based farming practices relevant to Manitoba’s primary agriculture industry.
  7. Net Worth
    • Minimum Requirement:
      • $500,000 CAD.
    • Verification:
      • Your net worth may need to be verified by a designated third-party service provider.
      • If requested, the verification report must be submitted with your application within 120days of receiving your Invitation to Apply (ITA).
